Welcome to Chorus! I hope you are ready for an exciting adventure! Over the span of this course you will achieve amazing things while establishing yourself as part of a team. You will grow your understanding of the elements of music (melody, form, rhythm, harmony/texture and expression), and develop your musicianship skills. On top of all this, you will be given ample opportunities to show off your hard work through concerts and fun events! How? Read on! Chorus is designed to contain a wide range of music. This means you will be singing classical, baroque and romantic era pieces as well as music you would hear on the radio. We will explore different cultures and musical styles from around the world as well. This will ensure a well-rounded choral education, while also reinforcing the curriculums in other classes you are taking this year! In order to make our team as strong as possible, we will work together to develop and improve each member’s musicianship skills (sight reading/singing, ear training, interval recognition). We will work to improve these skills through something called “Theory Thursdays.” Each Thursday, we will take a good chunk of class time to work on specific musicianship skills that will assist in music learning. It is important to remember that musicianship skills are not built overnight and it may be a little rough in the beginning. But that's ok! With hard work and dedication you will succeed and our team will be stronger than ever! Chorus will have one required concert during the semester. All concert dates, dress rehearsals, after school rehearsals or anything else that may occur outside of class will be announced at the latest two weeks ahead of time. Student performance will be graded and documented just like any other class you are taking. That being said, this class is not just about your grade. It is also about being apart of a team and putting your best foot forward! As long as you support your teammates and try your best, chorus will be a walk in the park!
